Housing: Caravan and Tent Site Licensing

July 16, 2012

The Caravan Site Licensing procedure has been updated. There is a current debate about fire safety issues as the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 identifies the fire and rescue authority as the enforcing authority. There needs to be liaison with the fire authority on any matters of concern regarding fire safety provisions. In addition to the Model Standards 2008 for Caravan Sites, RIAMS also contains the ‘Model Standards 1989 for Holiday Caravan Sites‘ and ‘Model Standards for Touring Caravan Sites 1983’.

There are now model application forms for a Caravan Site Licence and Tent Site Licence on RIAMS. A Tent Site Licensing Procedure is currently in production and will soon be added. Tent site licensing is becoming a more complex issue with the development of options such as camping pods.
