Abridged Application for Renewal of HMO Licences in England
The Licensing and Management of Houses in Multiple Occupation and Other Houses (Miscellaneous Provisions)(Amendment)(England) Regulations 2012 allows a renewal process to be used by Local Authorities with the aim of cutting down on ‘red tape’. It reduces the amount of information required to be submitted by an applicant where the application is for a HMO Licence renewal. This is defined as a the situation where a licence is already in place and needs renewing.
If a previous licence has expired then this renewal procedure is not available and a full application must be submitted for a new licence.
The procedure for processing the renewal licence remains the same (see below) the only difference being that there is less information to provide on the renewal application form (with the caveat that any changes to facilities or layout in the property have to be disclosed).
The RIAMS procedure has been amended to include this approach and a model ‘HMO Licence Renewal Application Form added to the documents in the Housing Module.
