Scrap Metal Dealers Bill and the Offence of Buying Scrap Metal
The Scrap Metal Dealers Bill was at the 3rd reading stage on 18th January and so could become law shortly. It covers site licensing and collector licences and includes measures requiring verification of supplier identity and record keeping. There is an offence of buying scrap metal for cash.
The RIAMS Scrap Metal Licensing procedure will be amended to take account of the changes when they come into force. The Home Office Guidance on the offence of buying scrap metal for cash is on RIAMS in the Licensing module.
