Health Protection Agency to become Public Health England

February 20, 2013
Public Health

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) will not exist after 1st April 2013. After that date it’s existing functions (and most staff) will be taken on by the newly created Public Health England (PHE).

In anticipation of the changes, references in RIAMS procedures to the HPA will start to be amended to PHE. Existing references to HPA guidance documents and publications will not need changing at the current time as these documents will still exist until they are superceded by new documents which will be published by PHE at some point in the future.
