New Food Safety and Hygiene Regulations England
The Food Safety and Hygiene (England) Regulations 2013 came into force at the end of December. These revoke the 2006 Regulations and therefore from 1st January 2014 local authorities in England will need to ensure that enforcement actions such as letters, notices and summons reference the new legislation.
The Food Standards Agency has written to local authorities to make them aware of the changes, saying: “We will update model documents so that they reference the new Regulations and will be making the relevant amendments to the Food Law Code of Practice and the Practice Guidance and the Approvals Guidance, as soon as is practical. However, these may not be available before the Regulations come into force, so it is important that in the meantime you update the relevant forms or notices that you use so that from the 31 December onwards they reference the new Regulations.”
Notices on RIAMS have been updated; letters and procedures will be updated to reflect the new regulations as soon as more information is available.
