Changes to the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014

litterThe government has announced that the main provisions of the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 will come into force on 20th October. New content will be added to RIAMS to reflect the new powers conferred by the act, and a significant amount of content will be amended across many of the modules on the system. We aim to have most new content and revisions uploaded by 20th October.

New powers/provisions include:

  • Community Trigger Reviews and Remedies: new provisions to help victims get action to address repeated problems
  • Civil Injunction: for major problems (delayed implementation until 2015)
  • Criminal Behaviour Orders: for major issues
  • Community Protection Notice: where something spoils community’s ‘quality of life’; therefore there is cross-over with nuisance, to deal with noise, litter, graffiti etc.
  • Public Spaces Protection Order: new for dog control in parks, alcohol etc.
  • Closure Power: new 48-hour closure of premises to three months via Magistrates’ Court if required
  • Grounds for Possession: new power for landlords

  • References to statutory nuisance to be updated, e.g. Rubbish and Accumulations
