There are over 50 contributors writing and reviewing for RIAMS. The list below shows a selection of authors across the system who contribute to the fields of Administration, Enforcement, Environmental Health and Licensing.

Alan Brown

Alan is the content editor for RIAMS. He worked for over 30 years in local government, was the Environmental Health Manager for a unitary authority and fulfilled broad health improvement responsibilities. His consultancy work has covered environmental protection, public health and waste management projects. He has a particular interest in the promotion of health and wellbeing.

Dr Stephen Battersby

Stephen has over 40 years’ experience in Environmental Health specialising in housing but with other public health interests. He is editor of Clay’s Handbook of Environmental Health. He is currently running the RHE UK Housing Professionals Forum and teaching courses on the HHSRS, enforcement and preparing for appeals to the Residential Property Tribunal.

Julia Bradburn

Julia is a Legal Executive, Fellow of CILEX and former principal licensing officer at South Somerset District Council and Taunton Deane Borough Council. Julia specialises in caravan site licensing, animal licensing and zoo licensing. She has a specialist knowledge in large events licensing, especially outdoor events and festivals.

Lynn Collingbourne

Lynn is a partner with The Housing Consultancy Partnership, renowned for its role in improving and designing services that help disabled people to live independently in mainstream housing. She has supported local authorities, housing associations and HIAs in this respect and updated the Disabled Facilities Grant Guidance on behalf of CLG in 2010. 

Shaun Fudge

Shaun is a Chartered Environmental Health Practitioner with 20 years’ experience in Environmental Health. Shaun specialises in environmental protection and has experience in dealing with a wide range of environmental protection issues. He has specialist knowledge in environmental permitting, noise, nuisance and pest control.

Pete Hill

Pete has over 30 years’ experience in all areas of Environmental Health, his interests are public health and sustainability. He was seconded to the Health Protection Agency 2008 working on a national partnership project, he then took up a post running the sustainability unit at a district council before leaving local government in 2013. Pete now runs JigsawPSPH, his own Public Health and Social Media consultancy. 

Ian Marriner

Ian is a qualified Environmental Health Practitioner with over 25 years’ experience in both the public and private sectors. Ian also holds a law degree and teaches on a range of legal enforcement courses through Warwick Legal Training (part of the School of Law at Warwick University).

Oliver Matthews

Oliver has over 22 years’ experience of Environmental Health work and student training in both private and public sectors specialising in environmental permitting and air quality. Oliver works for Carmarthenshire County Council and is also chair of the All-Wales EPR Sub Group and a member of the Welsh Air Quality Forum and DEFRA’s Industrial Pollution Liaison Committee.

Stephen Peliza

Stephen is a qualified acoustic consultant with 40 years’ experience in private sector. For the last 26 years he has run a private consultancy advising on noise and acoustics aiming to provide practical advice. His specialist knowledge includes environmental noise in terms of both planning and nuisance.

Julie Pinnick

Julie is a Principal Associate with RHE but has worked in the commercial areas of Environmental Health enforcement for nearly 20 years with a particular strength in food safety. She has developed systems, procedures, projects and training that reflect the changing needs of the regulatory landscape. 

Dave Walker

Dave is a Senior EHO working in Safety and Licensing at Torbay Council. He has worked in the commercial field of environmental health for over 14 years and has extensive experience in supporting and training small business in meeting current legal standards. Dave has chaired the Devon Health and Safety Sub Group for the last 4 years and helped produce the Safer Workplace Better Business pack.
